Thank you Jetblue for those last minute deals, thank you Bougainvillea Beach Resort for given us the honeymoon suite without even asking for it, but most importantly thank you Ty for these 6 years of paradise. I love you.

Well, the past couple of weeks have been really crazy, happy and emotional. I started March like any other month, nothing exciting going on until my boyfriend became my fiancé on March 4th at the Botanical Gardens, a month ago today. Just remembering that day gets me all emotional and happy. If you missed my proposal story, read it here. I had no idea, was not expecting it and honestly I thought it’d take longer for that day to arrive. From the moment I became a soon-to-be-bride the wedding planning began and has not stopped. I have a wedding inspiration board on Pinterest, that has helped me to get ideas for decorations, etc. I have searched for venues online and visited one already. I’m already looking at wedding gowns, flowers, first dance songs (this has been crazy hard), cakes, shoes, seating arrangements, decorations, etc, you name it I have probably already started thinking about it, and in no particular order, I know I should have some sort of list but I can’t leave certain things for later, at least I want to have an idea. I know that venue is a priority and at this moment, Ty and I know for sure the venue we want, it’s just a matter of picking the date that will work for us and also our pockets. I am loving every moment of this crazy wedding planning and most likely I’ll share more about it after we book the venue we have in mind. Yey!

I walked fast to the car, looking to the sides hoping to find Ty somewhere. Probably he is in the car I thought, but there was no Ty in the car only an envelope with another note inside and $30. The note said to go to a nice garden in the Bronx and to find him there. I swear I almost googled “nice garden in the Bronx” because I wanted to make sure there was no other one than the Botanical Gardens. So I drove fast, I admit, while listening to music and talking to myself. Luckily, GPS helped me  get to the location without getting lost. I decided not to park inside the parking lot, after all there was plenty of parking right outside the entrance. I walked as directed to the booth, relieved that I had made it before 11am. I mentioned my name at the ticketing booth hoping they might have my ticket, I was feeling anxious again, but my name was no where to be found. The lady helping me was making some calls and contacting other staff members through two-way radio. I started to feel nervous. She figured out that I had to go back to the parking lot booth and someone will help me there. As I walked back a very smiley lady walked out the parking lot booth asking me where my car was, I told her I had parked right outside. She insisted to get my car and park in the lot, she was reserving a spot for me, with a white cone and all. So, I went to get the car as I wondered while was the lady so nice and excited for me to park in the lot. I parked and thanked the lady which very suspiciously said “Have a great day”, while another employee just nodded  and smiled. In my mind I could only think, “what is going on?”.

Went to get my ticket and asked where to find the image on the second note. So I walked fast, trying to breath. I got a text from Ty, telling me why am I asking for help and to just to follow the instructions on the note. At this point I felt observed and followed. I kept walking and saw the sign for the orquid show. In my mind everything seemed a little clearer but still confused. I walked into the conservatory, there was a lot of people, taking photos and I saw Ty sitting on a bench, nicely dressed. I smiled and gave him the “what’s going on” look, he didn’t say anything but at least I felt relieved. I told him that I left so fast and didn’t know what to wear and I just put on the first thing I thought was nice. I asked him if I needed to change or if we were going somewhere else after, he didn’t answer. We walked, enjoyed the show, talked about trees and flowers. Now this may sound weird, there was a tree with some flowers and the soft smell reminded of my grandmother, like if she was there somehow. I got teary eyed, I felt happiness, peacefulness and relieved. We continued taking photos and walking. In my mind I could only wonder if all this craziness was just to see the orquid show, but kept walking and posing next to the orquids while Ty snapped some pics of me with his cell.

We enjoyed the show and walked out of the conservatory, holding hands, feeling nervous we approached some stairs and we walked down to the lawn. We stood in front of each other and Ty said, “are you ready?”.  ”Ready for what?”,  I replied while I felt my voice almost breaking and getting uncontrollably teary. He reached inside his coat and slowly got down on one knee, emotional and with tears on his eyes he asked me to marry him. I couldn’t speak, I nodded and said yes. We hugged and I saw a shadow of someone taking photos by a tree, I pointed out that there was someone taking photos of us. Then I was able to see Julia, which was capturing the whole proposal since the moment I had arrived.

It was a very emotional and crazy day. I am extremely happy and I am so thankful for everyone that helped out Ty in this process. My sister and brother for giving Ty their approval, yes Ty actually asked my sister and brother for their approval, so romantic. Thanks Al for driving Ty and Julia to the Botanical Gardens. Julia for being there, capturing photos making sure I didn’t see your red bag, you did a great job hiding (can’t wait to see those images). Francine for helping out Ty with ring process, which I am sure Ty had a lot of fun looking.

Era una mañana tarde de domingo. Como de costumbre, me desperté un poco tarde, para tener suficiente energía para trabajar en la revista más tarde en la noche. Me senté en el borde de mi cama, bostecé,  estiré los brazos y lentamente caminé hacia la sala para recibir mi beso de buenos días de Ty. Hubo un silencio en la sala. Nadie escribía en la computadora, o hablaba de Jeremy Lin. Ty no estaba en la sala. Miré a mi alrededor y todavía no completamente despierta vi una nota de 8,5 x 11 con instrucciones sobre mi escritorio. Lo leí y no lo entendía. Por un momento pensé que el traductor Google hubiera sido útil. Busqué mi teléfono descargado e inmediatamente lo cargué lo suficiente como para encenderlo y ver si hay mensajes de texto. Mi corazón estaba empezando a correr. Tenía dos mensajes de texto de Ty, uno que despertara a las 935am, y otro que mencionara mi nombre en la tiquería, que no tenía ningún sentido en este momento. Leí las instrucciones una vez más, lo que indicaba que me ponga algo bonito, no maquillaje sólo brillo de labios, que llevara mi cámara 5D y tenia que salir de el apartamento a más tardar a las 10a.m para llegar a tiempo. Eran 10a.m. cuando leí la nota. Le envié un mensaje a Ty para dejarle saber que yo acababa de leer la nota y dejará lo antes posible, yo también le pregunté qué estaba pasando?, Pero no contesto. Me lavé los dientes, me duché y puse la toalla en el baño como indicaba en la nota y como me vestía, me preguntaba qué podría ser? sera que me va a ……  no, podía ser. Probablemente, voy a tomar fotos en un lugar especial o tal vez vamos a tomar fotos de los dos, como sabemos hacer a veces. Me puse unos jeans y una blusa decente. Me olvidé por completo el significado de lo que significaba vestir bien. Solo me aseguré de que me viera decente sin maquillaje.

Caminé rápido hacia el carro, mirando a los lados, con la esperanza de encontrar a Ty. Probablemente él está en el carro pensé, pero no estaba Ty en el carro, pero un sobre con otra nota y $30. La nota decía que vaya a un bonito jardín en el Bronx y encontrarlo allí.  Juro que casi busco en google “bonito jardín en el Bronx” porque quería asegurarse de que no había ningún otro que no sea el Jardín Botánico. Así que manejé, rápido tengo que admitir, mientras escuchaba música y yo hablaba conmigo misma. Por suerte, el GPS me ayudó a llegar al lugar sin perderme. Decidí no estacionar en el interior del estacionamiento, después de todo, había mucho puesto justo fuera de la entrada. Caminé como indicaba que hiciera a la tiquetería, aliviada de que yo lo había llegado antes de 11am. Y pregunte si había alguna entrada a mi nombre, con la esperanza de que podría tener mi boleto listo para mí, me sentía ansiosa de nuevo. Pero mi nombre no lo encontraban, la chica que me estaba ayudando estaba haciendo algunas llamadas y poniendose en contacto con otros miembros del personal a través de radio. Empecé a sentirme nerviosa. Ella averiguó que yo tenía que volver a la cabina de estacionamiento, alguien me va a ayudar allí. Mientras caminaba de regreso, una mujer muy sonriente salió de la cabina de estacionamiento me preguntó dónde estaba mi carro, le dije que había estacionado justo afuera. Ella insistió para fuera por el carro para estacionarlo adentro, que estaba reservando un lugar para mí, con un cono blanco y todo. Por lo tanto, fui a buscar el carro mientras me preguntaba, porque tan agradable y muy contenta la señora. Estacioné el carro y le agradecí a la señora que muy sospechosamente dijo: “Que tengas un gran día”, mientras que otro empleado asintió con la cabeza y sonrió. En mi mente yo sólo podía pensar ¿Qué está pasando?

Fue a buscar mi boleto y pregunté dónde encontrar la imagen de la última nota. Así que caminé y respiraba. Recibí un texto de Ty, y me dijo ¿por qué estoy pidiendo ayuda?, Y que sólo siga las instrucciones que aparecen en la nota. A este punto me sentía observada y perseguida. Seguí caminando y vi el cartel para el show de orquídeas en el conservatorio. En mi mente todo parecía un poco más claro, pero todavía confuso. Entré a el conservatorio, había un montón de gente, tomando fotos y vi Ty sentado en un banco, bien vestido. Yo sonreí y le di una mirada que decia “que es lo que está pasando?”, él no dijo nada pero al menos me sentía aliviada. Le dije que salí tan rápido, no sabía qué ponerme y me puse lo primero que pensé estaba bien. Le pregunté si tenía que cambiarme o si iriamos a otro lugar después de la exposición pero él no respondió. Caminamos, disfrutamos del la exhibición, hablamos sobre los árboles y las flores. Ahora bien, esto puede sonar extraño, había un árbol con unas flores blancas y el olor suave me recordaba a mi abuela, como si ella estaba allí de alguna manera. Tenía lágrimas en los ojos, sentí  felicidad, tranquilidad y alivio. Seguimos tomando fotos y caminando. En mi mente yo sólo podía pensar en si toda esta locura era sólo para ver el show de orquídeas?, pero seguimos caminando y posaba junto a las orquídeas, mientras que Ty tomaba algunas fotos con su celular.

Terminamos la exhibición y salimos del conservatorio, de la mano, me sentía nerviosa, nos acercamos a unas escaleras y caminamos hacia el césped. Nos paramos frente a frente y Ty dijo, ¿estás lista?, listo para lo que? le respondí mientras sentia mi voz quebrantar y mis lagrimas q no las podia controlar. Metió la mano en el abrigo y lentamente se puso se puso de rodillas, emocionado y con lágrimas en los ojos me pidió que me casara con él. Yo no podía hablar,  asenté con la cabeza y dije que sí. Nos abrazamos y vi una sombra de alguien tomando fotos justo al lado de un árbol, le dije que había alguien tomando fotos de nosotros. Luego tuve la oportunidad de ver a Julia, que fue la estaba capturando toda la propuesta de mano desde el momento en que yo había llegado.

Fue un día muy emotivo y loco. Me siento muy feliz y estoy muy agradecido por todos los que ayudaron a Ty en este proceso. Mi hermana y un hermano por dar a Ty su aprobación, sí Ty llamó a mis hermanos para pedirle su aprobación, tan romántico. Gracias Al por conducir Ty y Julia al Jardín Botánico. Julia por estar ahí, y tomar las fotos asegurándote de que no vea tu cartera de color rojo, hizo un buen trabajo escondiendose (no puedo esperar a ver esas imágenes). Francine por su ayuda con el proceso de elegir el anillo, que estoy segura de que Ty se divirtió mucho.
